I had planned a beautiful home birth with a midwife I had the utmost confidence in.  I spent the last month of my pregnancy meditating through birth affirmations.  After a beautiful pregnancy, the unexpected happened.  My son was born on July 12, 2011 with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.  Which is just a fancy way of saying oxygen deprivation and blood loss.  He was gray when they pulled him out of me.  We spent the next four weeks at hospital about 45 minutes away from home.  He came home with a g-tube, fundoplication , and a very damaged brain.  This is my story of trying to raise my son as naturally as possible while in the thick of the medical world.

Max’s Diagnoses thus far:  unsafe swallow, cerebral atrophy, epilepsy (seizure disorder), cerebral palsy, cortical vision impairment, delayed gastric emptying, and mental retardation.

OMG! I’m so glad to have found you!! I can relate so well to many, many of your posts here! I just started a group on facebook “Crunchy Mamas with Medically Intense Kids, A Support Group” https://www.facebook.com/groups/433402643430127/?fref=nf because I couldn’t find anything like that out there. It can be a lonely world being in the crunchy mama world and the medical/special needs world. Then I just found your blog, hooray! I think I am getting ready to start my own…there is so much to write and people keep telling me I should write. Anyway, so glad to have found you!! -Kristin, Eowyn’s mama
